About the Author

Johanna Basford was born in Scotland and grew up in her parent's fish farm in Auchnagatt in Aberdeenshire. Basford graduated Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) in Dundee with a degree in Textile Design in 2005. She also specialized in Screen printing. Basford works and lives in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Basford's works of illustrations are widely recognized and can be found in products such as wallpapers, beer bottles, and even tattoos. She believes computer generated graphics can feel cold and soulless which is the reason why she does not use computers for her works. Basford owns her own little studio in a converted farm in the country with large windows that overlook the surrounding fields. She works for Sony, Starbucks, Chipotle, Absolut Vodka, and The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Some of works were was commissioned by the Queensberry Hunt Ceramicists for creating hand drawn patter designs for the tableware collection in 2008, has done a pen and ink illustration with the Heartbreak Publishing company and images layered over fashion photography for Vogue in 2009, and created illustrations for iPhone app The New Goodbye in 2010.
